Battle in the Borders Weekend - Ayton

Been away on holiday but have now had a chance to sort out some photos from the battle weekend in Ayton.  This was an event organised through the Littlewars Revisited Forum by Antony Spencer, the new owner of Imperial Miniatures.

I travelled with my regular opponent Anthony Morton and we arrived Friday night and after a quick dinner Anthony, Dave and I met Antony and Paul at the Ayton hall to set up the battlefield and sort out some troops.

After breakfast at Morrisons, we joined Antony, Paul and John at the hall and started laying out forces.

The rules used were Fistful of Lead Large Battles and each commander had 10-11 units with 3 commanders on each side and the table was 21' x 6'

John, Paul and I took the Prussian Alliance side and Anthony, Antony and Dave took the British defenders.

The object of the game was to seize the majority of 6 objectives and hold them until the  game end.  The fighting was bloody and see-sawed back and forth with event cards adding wrinkles to the game.

When the game was called, honours were even with two objectives each and two contested.

We retired to a local pub for dinner.

On Sunday we setup 3 games:

Antony ran a 40mm Napoleonic skirmish game, Dave ran a large Sudan game using the Portable Wargame rules and I ran a Toy Soldier game using the Portable Wargame and a scenario from One Hour Wargames.

I didn't manage to get photos from the other 2 games.

On Sunday evening we retired to another pub after clearing the hall and then Anthony and I made our way home on Monday morning.

All in all a great weekend.

    1. It was - a lot of lovely 54mm on the table, and easy set of rules to use and a result at the end. And a lot of laughter. You couldn't ask for more.
