Been quite busy of the last few weeks with real life and other things going on so not had much chance to do a lot of wargaming or update the blog.
I have managed to complete the 3 54mm Hat Punic Wars Elephants that have been stuck on the bench for weeks.
and I am back working on some terrain for the Dendermonde project - I managed to finish th camp for the allies.
These have both been varnished now so look a little neater.
I have also been painting more buildings for Dendermonde and adding shutters and other decoration. I need to sit down with a concerted effort as I have 32 other houses to finish! That is before I move on to cutting out the roofs and tiling them...
I have managed a few games and played a DBN game with Anthony in 20mm to try out the rules again. My die throwing was pretty poor, but I am still interested in the system as a game for larger battles.
We also tried out War of the Ring 2nd Edition but realised fairly quickly that we really need to dedicate a long afternoon to it to finish a game.
At the club I ran an Honours of War Austrian vs Prussian game for 3 of us and this week ran A Franco-Prussian game for 4 of us using Black Powder with some amendments. I am looking for some rules that can handle bigger games and where units only take a few hits before having to test for morale.
I like the Neil Thomas 19th Century rules but they tend to breakdown and drag above 12 units a side as units take 16 hits (4 per base) maximum - though bases can be lost due to morale failure.
I am also tending towards game where units stay on the table until they are completely removed rather than having base removal as I find it easier and more visually appealing to play.
The Black Powder game went pretty well, I thought, having not played with the rules for several years. I need to tweak the QRS I made (we used 66% measurements) and remember some rules better (no one actually used the prone rule).
