I have made a start on painting up some 54mm Napoleonics for Neil Thomas's rules and have completed my first unit of HAT Bavarians.
As can be seen from the picture below the next unit of Wurttemberger Jaegers is already on the painting table (assistance by Gizmo the cat).
Are all the units in Mike Thomas' rules 16 figures? I like that number for 54mm as it seems to be large enough to be a believable battalion, but not so large that one spends all one's time painting and never finishing enough figures to play a game

ReplyDeleteThe Neil Thomas rules use 4 stands per unit so you can put as many figures as you like on a stand. We found that 80 x 80 stands let you fit 4 54mm figures (including the more action pose ones) in a 2x2 formation.

ReplyDeletethanks - I like the Confederate States armies as they make a change from painting French (though I am likely to paint French Infantry as Westphalians or Italians!)
Thanks for the information, Mike. I went ahead and ordered the rules. They sound like they are the kind of rules I like: not too complex, fast and fun! After forty years of wargaming I find that life is too short for complex rules. And I've switched to 54's because they make me feel like I'm twelve again - except this time no fire crackers or pea shooters!
